AboutThe program

Who we are

The journey starts here. SDK exists to empower and inspire competitive young athletes by fostering their physical, mental, and personal growth through the game of basketball.

Who we are

Vision

To be a premiere organization for Youth Basketball in the Dayton region, preparing players to be successful Alter Knights.

Mission

Instill the values of consistent work ethic (play hard) and sportsmanship (team) through regular competition, daily commitment (get better), personal accountability, all while creating a fun and positive environment.

Points of differenceWhat sets us apart

What sets us apart

  • Character building and skill development in equal measure

  • What is given is what is earned; skill and effort impact results

  • We develop individuals, but we play and coach as a team

Competitive themesHow we compete

How we compete

  • Play Hard!

We give great effort and commit to great focus in all that we do.

As the boys get older, the expectation grows, and “playing hard” becomes more than just the physical aspect of the game – the mental components must advance to the next level.

  • Have Fun!

We work to create a lasting love of the game of basketball.

We want the boys to continue to grow in their love of the game – confidence in their abilities and success on the court allows for this.

  • Get Better… Together!

We take advantage of every opportunity to get better – and we do it together, as a team.

We want the boys to create habits that transcend their time on the court. A focus on constant improvement and collective success are critical foundations.

Coaching principlesWhat families can expect

Coaching principles

Player Development
The advancement of individual and team skills from each and every participant is fundamental to what we aim to accomplish. We will strive to provide as many opportunities to practice and play as is reasonable and warranted by the individual’s commitment, ability, and what gives the team its best chance to compete.
Playing Time
Playing time is not expected to be equal, but it is expected to be fair. SDK is a select, merit-based program where skill, effort, coachability, attendance and game situations determine playing time. The coaching staff alone will make these decisions and prioritize each player’s development, attitude, and joy above all else.
Coaching Ethics
We will create an emotionally and physically safe environment where we model and teach ethical behavior and competition. Our choices and actions reflect the best interests of the kids and the output produced in all practices and games.
